At Seniors Helping Seniors® Greater Lansing, we have a passion for meeting the needs of seniors in a way that provides both dignity and a sense of camaraderie. Our owner(s) Amy Kanouse firmly believe we can do that through serving seniors in our community, which includes: Greater Lansing Area.
"My week is often filled with conversations about how to get parents and other loved ones to accept help. Remaining independent is extremely important to many seniors and they view accepting help as "losing control." Our services are unique and not only addresses the physical assistance needed, but also meets the need for companionship that is so common." One of the ways Amy helps seniors accept the option of exploring assistance is assure them that her goal is to help seniors remain independent--not to take over.
"We never attempt to tell individuals what to do. Our goal is serve them and help them achieve their goals."
One reason that Amy decided to begin this service was the connection she learned about while working and volunteering with seniors. "I feel that seniors need compassionate, caring individuals, who are able to assist them with everyday tasks and help them remain independent and in their homes, for as long as possible."
"I love the fact that when our matched Care Providers and Receivers are out in public together, no one knows that they are anything more than two friends out shopping or playing cards at the senior center. There are no medical scrubs, no name tags--which can be a type of dignity protection for those who are uncomfortable with accepting help."
“Avoiding caregiver burnout is easier said than done. It is amazing how sometimes just the slightest bit of assistance can keep someone from being overwhelmed. Trying to do everything yourself can eventually rob you and your loved one of balance and joy,” says Amy.
